Red Sea Tensions Ease, China–U.S. Freight Recovers—But Compliance Still Critical

Release time:

2025-05-17

Global logistics is seeing relief as tensions in the Red Sea subside, allowing carriers to resume safer passage through the region. In response, major shipping lines have announced increased sailings on China–U.S. routes—particularly from South China to West Coast ports like Los Angeles and Oakland—starting late May.

Transit times are expected to improve slightly, but U.S. Customs continues to tighten enforcement on cargo declarations (AMS/ISF), labeling, origin documents, and DG compliance. Items like batteries, wood products, and food shipments remain high-risk for delays or fines if improperly declared.

Exporters should act fast to leverage recovering schedules—but must partner with logistics providers offering end-to-end visibility and U.S. clearance expertise. Proactive compliance and documentation review are key to avoiding costly holdups at the last mile.
